The Underdark is a cavernous maze that stretches under most of Faerun. The most inhospitable place on Toril, the Underdark is home to many evil creatures, some perverted and ugly, some deadly and beautiful. This is the home of the Drow, however they are not the only evil race to live there...

Chitines are spider-like creatures that were bred as slaves by the drow of Ched Nasad. They have four arms and can spin webbing link a spider. They bitterly hate the drow and will flee from any drow settlements they come across. The legacy of the drow still runs deep in chitine society and they are almost as opportunistic as their oppressors. Chitines follow Lolth and their priestesses are called choldriths, even more spider like then their weaker cousins, they have bloated abdomens and spindly legs.

Deep Imaskari are descended from the Imaskar, one of the first empires ruled by humans. They were destroyed by their own magic and slaves, but the few that survived fled to the Underdark and started a civilization there. The descendents are now a human sub race adapted to life underground, and they continue to research and use arcane magic in their sealed city.

The Drow are the most numerous and feared of the subterranean races. Since this is a drow site I have dedicated on entire page for the Drow...

Duergar are also known as Gray Dwarves. They are industrious and cruel, and their riches and kingdoms rival the drow holdings. They exist only to manufacture wealth for themselves and their lords. They are the merchants and artisans of the Underdark, and their wares can be found from one side of the continent to the other.

Gloamings are planetouched beings descended from natives of the Plane of Shadow. Gloamings are always traveling, their curiosity taking them far and wide. They are the ultimate individualists, and gloaming behavior is as great and varied as snowflakes. They resemble halflings with eyes like a cat and furry wings. They also glow, their wings and eyes variations of brown and gray.

Grimlocks are a brutish race, that after a millennia of utter darkness they have lost there ability to see. Blind but not unseeing, evil but not unfeeling, grimlocks understand the world in a way other humanoids can not. They are very suspicious of other races, however if a member of a different race or clan proves themselves worthy, they are not above admitting they were wrong.

Kuo-toas are fish folk that dwell in the lakes and seas of the Underdark. They are ruled by clerics and their religion to Blibdoolpoolp is the most important thing in their lives.

Slyths consider themselves to the the caretakers of the Underdark. They are at peace in the natural world, and consider it their duty to tend the natural environments of the subterranean caverns. They are neutral in their alignment and interact harmoniously with their environment but shun other races if at all possible.

Svirfneblin are also known as deep gnomes. They are serious and suspicious creatures, and while they don't wish harm on others they certainly will not jump to help. Living the the middle of all the predatory species of the Underdark, that is the only way the gnomes can survive. They are excellent artisans and gem cutters, they are diligent, relentless and loyal when it comes to both gems and people they entrust.

Other races include: Aboleths, Illithid, Minotaurs, Derro, Beholders, Orogs, Quaggoths, Tanarukk and Troglodytes.
